DJ Envy was curious to know how much of Robin Thicke’s music comes from his immediate experiences with Paula Patton.
Envy asked if Robin rushes for pen and paper when the two are in middle of an argument to write a song.
“There was one song on my last album that was very specific to that. She [Paula] said you don’t know what it’s like to be black and you don’t know what it’s like to be a woman. I was like s***, I can’t beat that. So, I wrote a song called ‘I Don’t Know How It Feels To Be U." As much as I try to put myself in your shoes, I’ll never know what it’s like to be black in America. And I’ll never know what it’s like to be a woman.”
Charlamagne Tha God then asked if this a common issue in interracial relationships.
“I think it [topic of black and white] shows up [in our relationship] because society makes it show up.”
