Anthony Anderson Explains Stereotypes Black Comedians Experience

Anthony Anderson and Lil Rel came by The Breakfast Club and they discussed the sigma behind becoming a successful comedian.

Charlamagne Tha God: "How come when black comedians are being funny and being silly and goofy, they call it coonin’? A white comedian could be doing the same thing and they just being goofy. Why we take ourselves so seriously."

Anthony Anderson: "I don’t know. I’m glad you said it because it’s only us who feel that way. It’s only our own community. We need to look at ourselves sometimes and look at that reflection that we’re looking at. I don’t know where it stems, or where it comes from but it’s something that’s been passed down from generation to generation and now it’s almost innate within us –this self-hatred."

Lil Rel: “Even when you start doing well, [the] first thing people start thinking [is that] you did something crazy. Only with the black comic. White comic, [people say] ‘that’s what is supposed to happen.’ If you [a black comic] get a deal, you apart of something [like the illiminati]”
