Millions of people are expected to be traveling in and out of the New York area this week. With July 4 falling on a Thursday this year, millions of New Yorkers will likely be getting a head start on their long holiday weekend by leaving work early Wednesday afternoon.
The New York Daily News reports that nearly 5.6 million people are expected to travel out of New York this year for the Fourth of July. Even though that seems like a lot, the Wall Street Journal reports that July 4 holiday travel is expected to drop for the entire country. According to AAA, the number of Americans traveling over 50 miles this holiday weekend is predicted to drop 0.8% from last year.
