(John Del Signore) The underground corridor linking the World Trade Center PATH Station the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal and Brookfield Place Pavilion (formerly the World Financial Center) finally opened to the public today. And oh what a corridor it is. The 600-foot long marble hallway boasts soaring skylights, elegant columns, and plenty of elbow room. It's so pretty it almost makes you want to go visit New Jersey! (Kidding.)
The corridor is the first part of the $4 billion World Trade Center Transportation Hub to open to the public. It runs west from the PATH station and underneath West Street, which will be welcome news to pedestrians who've previously had to schlep across the busy street or pedestrian bridge. The concourse will also eventually feature upscale retail outlets, and the entire hub is expected to be completed in 2015.
